$459,822. The decrease is illusory and is due to

the transfer of items to other heads of expenditure.

Head 25 A. Public Works Recurrent.

+$138,900. Larger provision is necessary for

maintenance owing to economy in this respect in the

previous years of financial stringency.

Head 25 B. Water Works Recurrent.

+ $529,407. This includes the first contribution of

nearly $400,000 to the Renewals and Improvements Fund.

Head 29. Stores Department. + $312,241

A new Department, formerly shown under the Public

Works Department.

Head 31. Public Works Extraordinary.

+$1,055,385.

This represents part of a programme of

Public Works separately approved. Most of the works

must be regarded as urgently necessary and their

construction has been postponed in previous years.
